The Week: Media news - Facebook bows to protests

Facebook has changed the way it runs its Beacon ad system following complaints from more than 50,000 users over the issue of releasing information on their internet activities without permission.

The system, which was introduced last month, sends messages to users' friends about what they are purchasing on various websites, including eBay and Blockbuster. Now, users have to proactively consent to Facebook posting their actions on to news feeds by clicking an "OK" button, which pops up once a consumer makes a purchase on a participating site.
