The Week: Media News - Five awarded HD licence

The broadcaster Five is set to launch high-definition services on Freeview from 2010 after Ofcom granted it a licence to broadcast in HD. Five's licence will initially involve simulcasting its peak-time programming on HD, but it has plans to share the channel with another broadcaster during the daytime and to offer video-on-demand services throughout the night. Separately, BSkyB is also planning to launch a high-definition TV version of its Sky News channel next year.
