The Week: Media News - ITV rebuffs report findings

ITV has issued a document to government ministers refuting a recent report from Alcohol Concern that claimed drinks ads are targeting children.

The report highlighted a claimed spike in drinks advertising between 3pm and 5pm, a claim that ITV says is "methodologically flawed" and is "misleading". According to ITV, the Alcohol Concern document "does not provide any evidence to link the scheduling of advertising and the actual level of viewing of alcohol advertisements by children; nor does it take into account the extensive alcohol advertising restrictions that are in place to ensure that alcohol ads do not appear in programmes of particular appeal to children".
