Films including Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Simpsons Movie and Transformers have helped push up July cinema admissions to their highest levels since records began in the 60s.

Admissions in July rose by 33.7 per cent compared with July 2006, reaching 21.8 million admissions, according to data from the Cinema Advertising Association. Cinema's previous best month was February 2002, when 19 million people turned out to watch films such as Monsters Inc and Ocean's 11.
