The Week: Media news - Lebedev announces plans

The Evening Standard's new owner, Alexander Lebedev, has announced plans to spend "tens of millions" of pounds on the ailing title in a bid to make it "more attractive" to readers.

Just a day after buying a majority stake in the paper, the Russian billionaire also spoke of plans to meet the Standard's journalists and appoint a new editor in the very near future. Geordie Greig, the editor of Tatler, has been widely tipped as the top candidate for the role.
