The Week: Media news - Metro ad revenues slump

Steve Auckland, the managing director of the Associated Newspapers title Metro, has admitted that the freesheet has suffered a double-digit decline in ad revenues in the past three months.

Speaking at an event to celebrate the title's tenth birthday at Associated's head office in Kensington, Auckland said: "The paper is still profitable, but it has suffered a double-digit decline in ad revenues in the first quarter. This will continue for the next six months." Although Auckland did not specify exact percentages, it is known that the freesheet had previously suffered single-digit losses in ad revenues between October and December 2008.
