The Week: Media News - Ofcom approves channels

ITV, Channel 4 and the BBC will all be launching high-definition channels on Freeview next year following a tender process handled by Ofcom.

The channels will be rolled out from late autumn 2009. The first of the three channels will launch in the Granada region before going nationwide by the end of the digital switchover in 2012. It is anticipated that a fourth Freeview service will launch in 2010 and will be occupied by Five.
