Online advertising growth in Europe will slow "significantly" over the next five years because of the recession and a maturing market, according to a report by Forrester Research.

As a result, the company has lowered its 2009 growth forecasts, published two years ago, from 14 to 10 per cent. This contrasts with 2007, when internet spend grew by up to 30 per cent each year. In the report, European Online Advertising Through 2013, the company predicts the market will grow at a compound annual rate of 9 per cent, to EUR14.8 billion in 2013.
