The Week: Media News - Radio 1 listeners are too old

BBC Radio 1 has come under fire from commercial radio executives, who claim that the station has breached its remit by attracting older audiences.

RadioCentre, the commercial radio sector's trade body, has alleged that Radio 1's average listener is 33 years old. This is outside of the target age range of 15- to 29-year-olds specified in Radio 1's service licence. The body is calling for the radio station to review its DJ line-up and music policy.
