The Week: Media news - Ridding wants website fees

John Ridding, the chief executive of the Financial Times, has urged publishers to find ways of charging for online content in order to preserve the quality of journalism.

Ridding warned that revenues will continue to suffer unless newspapers manage to offer something that sets them apart from the competition, such as a higher standard of journalism. The FT boss also called for the industry to drop its "feelgood" approach to the issue.
