The Week: Media News - Sky hits out at Ofcom probe

BSkyB has hit out at Ofcom's consultation over its plan to replace some of its free channels with pay-TV services on Freeview. Ofcom will launch the review in the autumn, which will delay Sky's plans until next year.

Sky had aimed to counter its rival Setanta's launch of pay-TV football coverage on digital terrestrial TV from this summer, by using Freeview to sell its own coverage. Sky said it is committed to introducing a four-channel pay-TV offering, rather than the three services referred to in its Ofcom submission and also pointed out that other pay-TV providers, such as Setanta, have launched services without the need for such a process.
