The Week: Media news - Tesco ditches in-store TV

Tesco is scrapping its in-store TV network, five years after the service was unveiled to claims that it would revolutionise retail marketing.

The supermarket claims the decision was taken because of "outdated and energy-inefficient" equipment, but it is believed that the Tesco Screens service was failing to generate significant profit. The decision comes three years after Sainsbury's axed its own network, Fresh TV. In 2004, Asda trialled a similar system, Asda Live, but pulled it two years later.
