The Week: Media News - UK warned on targeted ads

The European Commission has warned the UK Government that it faces prosecution for failing to protect consumers' privacy from targeted ad providers.

The commission has claimed that the UK has so far failed to comply with European Union rules protecting confidentiality, which require an independent body to supervise the interception of communications. The commission has now contacted the UK Government with a series of changes that need to be made, and has noted that it could prosecute the Government if it fails to take action.
