The Week: Online News - EC approves YouTube rival

The European Commission has approved a bid by News Corp and NBC to be allowed to create a rival video-sharing website to YouTube. The as-yet-unnamed venture will focus more on broadcast rather than user-generated content and will reportedly include thousands of hours of programmes and clips from the media owners' back catalogue and from other contributors including AOL, Yahoo!, Microsoft and News Corp-owned MySpace.
