Separately, MySpace, the social networking website, has suffered its first monthly drop in UK traffic for almost a year, as its rival Facebook gained ground. The number of unique UK visitors to MySpace fell by 300,000 to 6.5 million in May, while Facebook gained 527,000 visitors over the same period, according to Nielsen//NetRatings. The trend was similar in the US, where MySpace lost 450,000 unique visitors in May, while Facebook grew by a comparable amount.
