The Week: Online news - MySpace ad tool arrives

MySpace is launching its "hyper targeting" ad service in the UK. The system takes information provided by site users and divides them into target groups, enabling advertisers to run relevant campaigns based on interests such as sport and music.

The targeting system is already being used by MySpace in the US. Travis Katz, the senior vice-president and general manager for international at MySpace, said that the move should not raise privacy issues because the social networking site will only use public data posted by users.
