Bridgewater bought eight properties in Essex and Spain and spent £119,000 on holidays and £139,000 on sports cars, including several Porsche 911s. She was arrested in May 2005, and pleaded guilty to 16 charges of theft in September. Her partner, Robert Sangster, was found guilty of helping to pervert the course of justice. He received a nine-month suspended sentence.
