The Week: People news - Burnham takes culture role

Andy Burnham, the chief secretary to the Treasury, has been appointed as the new culture secretary, following last week's Cabinet reshuffle.

He replaces James Purnell who moved to the Department for Work and Pensions. The reshuffle followed the resignation of Peter Hain, the Work and Pensions minister, after the scandal of undeclared donations of £103,000 to back his bid to beome the deputy leader of the Labour Party.
