The Week: People news - Polman to be Unilever CEO

Paul Polman, the executive vice-president and zone director for the Americas at Nestle, is to be the new chief executive of Unilever.

Polman will succeed Patrick Cescau, who is set to retire at the end of the year after 35 years at the company. Before Nestle, Polman worked his way up at Procter & Gamble over 26 years to become its group president, Europe. Polman was previously tipped to succeed Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, Nestle's former chief executive, but was beaten to the role in September 2007 by the former Americas head Paul Bulcke.
