The Week: People News - Smith leaves Reed Elsevier

Ian Smith, the chief executive of Reed Elsevier, the publisher of the New Scientist and Farmer's Weekly, has left the company after just 11 months.

The announcement was made as Reed Elsevier released an interim management statement saying that its business-to-business publishing division, RBI, continued to face difficult trading conditions. Smith will be replaced by Erik Engstrom, the chief executive of Elsevier.
