The Week: People News - Smith takes top job at Reed

Reed Elsevier has appointed Ian Smith, the former chief executive of the builder Taylor Woodrow, to succeed Sir Crispin Davis as the publishing company's chief executive. Smith will join the company, whose magazines include New Scientist, Estates Gazette and Variety, on 1 January 2009 to ensure a smooth transition before Davis, 59, retires in March 2009.
