Which? in school vending inquiry

Which? has called on the government and food industry to tackle the issue of vending machines in schools as part of a review of food marketing and standards in schools.

Sue Davies, chief policy adviser at Which?, said: 'We believe the best way to deal with vending machines is as part of the work the government has initiated.'

Which? worked with British advertisers' body ISBA and the Department of Education on guidelines governing commercial activity in schools. But it withdrew, saying the guidelines had 'not been effectively followed'.

The American Beverage Association recently published guidelines removing soft-drinks machines from US elementary schools.
