White-Smith resurfaces in managing director role at Newsquest

LONDON – Chris White-Smith, the former group sales director of Telegraph Group, is joining regional newspaper publisher Newsquest.

White-Smith starts at Newsquest this week as managing director of Newsquest Media Sales. He replaces Lisa Bourne, who left the publisher last year.

Newsquest, which is owned by US media company Gannett, operates 300 newspapers including 17 daily titles. Last September, it acquired Exchange & Mart and Auto Exchange from United Business Media.

White-Smith will take charge of its sales operation, having left the Telegraph Group as part of changes following its acquisition by the Barclay brothers in 2004.

"My role is primarily to grow revenues and get Newsquest up the agenda and broaden its appeal," he said.
