The World: Amsterdam - Dutch publishers launch new daily compact

The rival Dutch publishing companies PCM Uitgevers and Wegener have announced a joint venture to launch a new Dutch daily compact newspaper.

The new title will be created by merging the PCM national broadsheet, Algemeen Dagblad, with the five regional broadsheets the two publishers produce. PCM and Wegener blamed a poor market for Dutch regional papers as the reason behind the merger, which will see the two companies shed 325 jobs.
