The World: Amsterdam - G&J Uitgevers pulls Gala from Dutch market

G&J Uitgevers has withdrawn Gala, its weekly celebrity and lifestyle magazine, from the Dutch market just over a year after it first launched.

The publisher made the decision after poor third-quarter results, with sales of around 78,000 falling well below expectations.

G&J Uitgevers, which owns titles including Quest, Glamour and National Geographic, partly attributed the poor sales to the Dutch market being too limited in size, along with worsening economic conditions.

The magazine was also hampered by the fact that the rival publisher Sanoma had introduced Grazia, a similar publication, into the market just two months before Gala was launched.
