The World: Athens - Greece adopts global advertising and marcoms code

Greece has become the third country in Europe to beef up its advertising self-regulation system by adopting the new global advertising and marketing communications code.

It joins Ireland and Belgium in adopting the new code, which greatly extends the original provisions, and which has been in force for more than 25 years. Oliver Gray (pictured), the director-general of the European Advertising Standards Alliance, described the initiative as "another step in the major effort that is being made to ensure a vibrant and effective self-regulatory system in Greece".

The move is expected to be followed by neighbouring countries such as Cyprus.
