The World: Beijing - China Telecom puts media business out to pitch

China Telecom, the country's state-owned telecommunications giant, has put its media business up for pitch. Starcom, the incumbent, is expected to contest the business with Mindshare and Carat.

The brief includes planning and buying across all media, excluding the CCTV network and digital.

The aim of the pitch is to help the company compete more effectively with China Mobile and China Unicom as competition in the sector intensifies.

The country's mobile market is expanding rapidly thanks to the introduction of 3G earlier this year.

Meanwhile, China Unicom has been marketing aggressively to support its roll-out of the iPhone.
