The World: Beijing - Li Ning hires Bates to broaden appeal outside China

The Chinese sportswear brand Li Ning has awarded Bates 141 a global creative brief to help raise the brand's appeal outside of the domestic market.

Bates will be responsible for developing an integrated brand and marketing communications strategy for selected international markets, which is thought to include Japan and India.

The account will include design, activation and special-order programmes, along with more traditional above-the-line work.

The appointment is not thought to affect Li Ning's relationship with Leo Burnett Shanghai, which handles the brand's creative work in China.
