The Viacom-owned operation said the planned channel would focus on local programming, but also feature international material in common with other local MTV channels. It aims to become the opinion leader among young Hungarians.
Bhavneet Singh, the MTV Networks International managing director, said: "Our expansion in Hungary is an integral part of the strategy of our emerging markets group and our Hungarian company plays a key role in our growth.
"With MTV Hungary, we're building a strong portfolio in the market and we'll have a great youth proposition. We have great trust in the local team."
