The World: Cairo - Egypt bans four papers over Mohammed cartoons

The Observer is one of four newspapers that have been banned from Egypt after reprinting cartoons of the prophet Mohammed that sparked a major controversy two years ago.

The other publications affected are The Wall Street Journal, Frankfurter Allgemeine and Die Welt.

According to the government-owned news agency MENA, the country's information minister, Anas al-Fiqi, had issued a decree declaring that any newspaper or magazine publishing the images would be banned.
