The World: Chicago - Burger King sued by franchisees over dollar burger

Burger King's US franchisees are suing the company over a controversial nationwide dollar double cheeseburger promotion they claim they can't afford.

The action, brought by the National Franchise Association, alleges Burger King doesn't have the right to set prices for certain menu items.

Burger King claims the lawsuit is without merit, pointing out that the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit decided earlier this year that it had the contractual right to require franchisee participation in the promotion.

Franchisees say the promotion is unsustainable.
