The World: Chicago - DDB beats Euro to $250m Safeway business

DDB in Chicago has picked up the $250 million Safeway account, beating Euro RSCG in a two-way final shoot-out.

The agency pitched alongside PHD in San Francisco, which was awarded the media planning and buying duties.

The original pitchlist was cut from four to two agencies earlier in the month. The supermarket cut Young & Rubicam, while Goodby Silverstein & Partners pulled out.

Dailey & Associates in West Hollywood previously handled the account. It was not asked to repitch.

DDB is expected to break its first work by the end of the year and the tagline, "Ingredients for life", will remain.
