The World: Copenhagen - Danish news titles in merger announcement

Det Berlingske Officin, the Danish newspaper publisher, has announced plans to merge the operations of two of its titles.

BT, the tabloid newspaper, and Urban, the commuter freesheet, are to share administrative operations, with plans for merged sales activities also in the pipeline.

Urban, which launched as a rival to Metro Xpress in 2001, will be headed by Arne Ullum, BT's managing director and editor-in-chief. Dorthe Carlsen, the editor of Urban, will retain his title.

The news of the merger follows the closure of Det Berlingske Officin's home-delivered freesheet, Dato, earlier this year.
