The World: Detroit - Olympic Games loses its shine to big US advertisers

The Olympic Games may be losing its appeal to major US advertisers. Fears have been raised following the decision by General Motors, the country's third-largest advertiser, to pull out of its long-standing $100 million-plus sponsorship of the US Olympic Committee and NBC Universal's coverage of the Games after 2008.

It comes in the light of falling viewing figures for the Games. GM said the Olympics no longer fitted its strategy.
