The World: Detroit - Universal McCann wins $150m BMW business

BMW has appointed Universal McCann as its new media planning and buying agency for its national and regional dealership groups.

The agency won the $150 million account following a pitch against the incumbent, GSD&M Idea City, and will begin working on the business at the start of July. The review was first called by the car manufacturer in September last year, as part of a process put in place by its parent company, BMW AG, in which its media business would be regularly scrutinised. The pitch process was handled by Cortex Consulting Group, an affiliate of the London-based consultancy AuditStar.
