The World: Dublin - Setanta plans US sports channel for expats

The Irish sports broadcaster Setanta is launching Setanta Sports, a 24-hour sports channel, in the US.

Broadcast in co-operation with the US digital television broadcaster DirectTV, the channel will be a premium subscription service aimed at 25- to 54-year-old male expatriate football fans.

The programming will include football from Ireland, Scotland and England, as well as European rugby matches and live football events from around Europe, including Champions League games and World Cup qualifiers.

Subscription to the channel will cost $11.99 a month for residential subscribers and $100 a month for commercial subscribers.
