The World: Hamburg - Pearson sells FT Deutschland to Gruner & Jahr

Pearson is to sell its 50 per cent stake in Financial Times Deutschland to Gruner & Jahr.

The deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, would give the German publisher complete ownership of the daily title.

FT Deutschland was launched eight years ago as a challenger to the German financial daily Handelsblatt and has a circulation of about 105,000. Pearson's share of assets was worth around EUR8 million at the end of 2007.

Rona Fairhead, the Financial Times Group chief executive, said the group was increasingly focused on the worldwide expansion of the FT and its digital financial information business, and that FT Deutschland no longer fitted within its strategy.
