In his new role, Smith will oversee the network's Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa and Middle East operations. He will continue to be based in Hong Kong.
At the same time the network has promoted Jeremy Pagden, the president and chief executive of Tequila Worldwide, to the position of president of global marketing services. He will preside over businesses including Integer, Tequila and Agency.com.
The appointments follow the recent promotion of Tom Carroll, currently the vice-chairman of TBWA\Worldwide, to the position of president.
