Malaysia looks set to follow Indonesia by ordering that TV commercials must be produced locally and with local talent.

Several leading production companies in Indonesia suspended operations last week - at the request of their foreign clients - following news of the restrictions.

The Malaysian government imposed its so-called "Made in Malaysia" regulations in the 80s. They dictate that 80 per cent of production costs should be spent in Malaysia. That figure is now expected to be raised.

Meanwhile, Eurosport has signed a deal with the Malaysian TV operator Astro to broadcast its 24-hour subscription sports channel to more than 1.9 million viewers in Malaysia.
