The World: Los Angeles - Biggest media companies see income fall

Revenue for the top 100 media companies in the US fell by 4.3 per cent year on year during the first half of 2009, a report by the US advertising magazine Ad Age has shown.

During the period, Comcast, the largest cable-systems operator in the US, overtook Time Warner to become the largest media company in the country, after revenues rose by 5.1 per cent.

Five of the ten largest media companies in the list were cable operators, including DirecTV Group and Cox Enterprises.

Since last year's list was compiled, 11 of the top 100 media companies in the US have fallen into bankruptcy, including six newspaper and two magazine publishers.
