The World: Manila - DDB scoops Unilever's Selecta ice-cream account

Unilever has awarded the $10 million account for Selecta, its market-leading Philippines ice-cream brand, to DDB.

The assignment follows a pitch that also involved Lowe and McCann Worldgroup, the incumbent.

The move was made independently of the global Unilever ice cream agency alignment which saw DDB and Lowe take over the $300 million business from McCann in January.

Sources say this is because, in the Philippines, Unilever is part of a joint venture with a local company, RFM, which has a say in marketing procurement.

Gil Chua, the DDB Philippines chief executive, said: "We now have a strong foothold on the Unilever business."
