The World: Manila - Turtle Cable hit with legal action over piracy issue

Authorities in the Philippines have issued a landmark restraining order against the pirate cable operator Turtle Cable for copyright infringement.

An order, issued by the country's Intellectual Property Office, prevents the broadcaster from redistributing international cable channels to which it does not own programme rights.

Cable piracy is rampant in the Philippines and the government has been pressed to act by the Cable & Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia. Simon Twiston Davies, the CASBAA chief executive, said: "This is the first time we have brought a cable piracy case to the IPO."
