The World: Melbourne - Taskforce calls for sponsorship and TV ad curbs

An Australian government taskforce has recommended a ban on alcohol sports sponsorship and the advertising of snack food to children.

In a report, the taskforce outlines a series of proposals to the food and drinks industries to reduce disease caused by obesity, smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.

It calls for a ban on sports sponsorship by alcohol brands and recommends that alcohol advertising be phased out from live sports broadcasts.

It also wants snack-food advertisers to phase out TV advertising before 9pm as well as premium offers and competitions targeting children.
