The World: Milan - La Gazzetta dello Sport still most popular Italian daily

There are currently 22.5 million daily newspaper readers in Italy, according to new figures.

According to the Audipress survey, the sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport saw its readership fall by 1.9 per cent but, with more than 3.6 million readers, it remains the country's most popular daily.

The most widely read general paper is La Repubblica, with just over three million readers (down by 0.4 per cent), followed by Corriere della Sera, with 2.577 million (down by 4.6 per cent).

Closely following the big three are the free newspapers Leggo, City and Metro, which were included in the survey for the first time because they exceeded the minimum threshold of 75,000 readers. Leggo recorded a readership of 2.008 million, City 1.691 million and Metro 1.647 million.
