The World: Mumbai - Burnett briefed to launch GM marques in India

General Motors has awarded its Indian corporate account to Leo Burnett, and has briefed the agency to launch two new marques - the Chevrolet Spark and the Tavera.

The Spark marks the start of GM's first significant move into India's small car category, which is dominated by Suzuki, Hyundai and Maruti.

Burnett, which handles GM business in a number of markets around the world, was awarded the business after a ten-way pitch.

Tom Bernardin, Leo Burnett's worldwide chief executive, said: "India, like China, is a hugely important market for us. In both territories, we have strong strategic and creative agencies."
