World: Mumbai - Star launches Hindi pay-TV channel Star One

Star, the most watched cable television network in India, is to launch Star One, a new premium Hindi pay-television channel, on 1 November 2004.

Star One is expected to cost 10 rupees (12p) per month, and will feature a mixture of bought and original programming across a range of genres including comedy, drama, lifestyle, films, youth and light entertainment.

Key shows include Pyar Ki Kashti Mein, a soap opera set on board a cruise ship.

Peter Mukerjea, the chief executive of Star India, said: "Star One is a channel dedicated to our more urban upscale audiences and will enable Star to provide a complete bouquet of Hindi TV entertainment to meet the diverse demands of marketers, advertisers and viewers in different demographics."
