World: New York - FTC to tighten rules on product placement

The Federal Trade Commission will finalise its review of product placement over the next few weeks, according to the FTC's associate director for advertising practices, Mary Engle.

The review has the potential to curtail significantly a booming industry in the US, with shows such as The Apprentice demanding multimillion-dollar fees to feature brands. TV networks could be required to declare any commercial interests in their programming as a result of the review.
