The World: New York - Hachette in online ad sales deal with Jumpstart

Hachette Filipacchi has extended the trend for publishers to build their advertising services capabilities by acquiring Jumpstart Automotive Media in a multimillion-dollar deal.

The San Francisco-based operation will take over digital ad sales for the publisher's stable of auto-related titles, including Car and Driver, Road & Track and Cycle World. Jumpstart will continue to operate its network that places automotive ads on other sites.

Hachette will pay $84 million for Jumpstart, with extra payments of up to $26 million if earnings targets are met.

Jack Kliger, the chief executive of Hachette Filipacchi Media US, claimed the acquisition would give the company scale and expertise in the online automotive market, the largest and most important category on the web.
