The World: New York - Late-night US talk shows return despite strike

The US network late-night talk shows, back on air eight weeks after the start of the TV writers' strike, have recorded big ratings.

NBC's The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and Late Night With Conan O'Brien both scored highly in their time slots, according to Nielsen figures.

Leno's show, without its writing staff, emerged ahead of David Letterman's, whose Worldwide Pants production company has reached an agreement with the Writers Guild of America.
