The World: New York - McCann scoops $175m Applebee's business

McCann Erickson in the US has captured the creative brief on the $175 million Applebee's restaurant chain account.

The win will be seen as a form of compensation for the network and its chief executive, John Dooner, having lost five Johnson & Johnson brands to other agencies earlier this month.

The business switches from DraftFCB, another Interpublic-owned network, which decided not to participate in the review. TBWA\Chiat\Day also contested the business.

Applebee's, which has been under fire from shareholders for poor management and share performance, is said to want a "younger, more energetic" positioning.
